rocketship comics
And lo, there was a new comics store in Brooklyn:
Or, rather, there will be. Soon. I have spoken with Alex, proprietor-to-be of Smith Street’s Great Comics Addition, and he promises that Rocketship will be a store to be reckoned with. Here’s a bit from their manifesto (you can read more on their blog, linked above):
ROCKETSHIP is a bookstore specializing in Comic Books, Graphic Novels, and Cartoon Art. Emphasis and extra attention is given to books by independent authors, alternative creators, and works of historic importance.
Our goal is to help spread the Gospel of Comics, and to try and live by these simple edicts:
1. Comics can be Art and Literature of the Highest Caliber.
2. Cartoon Art should be exhibited, admired, and generally have a wider availability for appreciative fans.
3. Comic Fans deserve more stores that are clean, well stocked, and well organized.
4. Everybody Loves Comics, even if they don’t know it yet.
I hear tell that Rocketship makes its debut in late July. We’ll be there during the month, visiting Alex and his compadres, spreading goodwill, wotnot. I’ll keep you posted regarding dates as I hear ‘em.
Rocketship will be located at 208 Smith Street (between Butler & Baltic).

Oh, sure, wait until I haven’t lived on Butler for three years, THEN bring in the really NICE comic book store. Grrrrr.
If Lethem doesn’t do an Omega the Unknown signing there, though, he’s in BIG trouble.
