Well, of course — it’s something slightly ‘occult’, so it MUST be evil. Like them there hoodoo folk in that ‘Skeleton Key’ movie from last year.
It’s actually kinda funny that when I was doing some research online into voodoo/vodou last week that the vast majority of the sites go to great lengths to point out that it’s a religion that has a strong sense of community holding it together, but that it has a bad press almost entirely because of Hollywood sensationalising it and misusing the concept of ‘the voodoo doll’ to make it seem like voodoo is pure evil.
It’s weird that although tarot and various other pagan/alternative earlier beliefs are almost exclusively used as Forces of Evil in movies, the idea of ‘Fate’ is widely used as a benevolent force designed to draw people together into Hollywood’s greatest fiction: True Love.

True Love as a great fiction? Dude, even I’m not that cynical.
Hollywood’s version of true love, on the other hand… “The Tarot Card Killer” is just too silly. The mind recoils.
Oddly, perhaps, I’m not one to get my knickers in a wad over the way “the occult”, such as it is, is portrayed in the media. That’s a battle we’ll never win, I’ve decided. The best thing that I can do is set an example as a woman with her head screwed on straight/firmly. That means being honest and answering questions as I can. I’m also way too old to be justifying myself to people who may not agree with my choices or point of view.

I noticed that they’re using the Book of Thoth in the poster art, but unless I miss my guess, they got a Marseilles deck or some knockoff of it for the actual film.

That cracks me up! Yeah, it was the Thoth that caught my eye. I did a bit of a doubletake when I saw the banner ad (either on myspace or gather.com, which I finally bit into yesterday).
