i wish i had a mac again
[wistful sigh]
Some amazing soul has made the PagePacker, a little application that lets you take DIY Planner’s Hipster PDA templates and arrange them on an 8×11.5 piece of paper, a la PocketMod or, of course, my one shot tutorial. This produces a handy little portable and disposable 8-page planner.
However, it only works on OS 10.4. I’m not allowed to complain about this, as the amazing soul mentioned in paragraph 1 is a well-known Mac programmer.
Goshdarnit, why can’t Apple make their shit affordable?

Apple are really damn expensive — I’m not sure why no-one else seems to be taking issue with the fact that at $500, the new iPhone idea takes it away from the price range of mobile phones and plunks it solidly in the limbo between Palm handhelds and low-end laptops.

They really are. It’s kind of ridiculous. Last year when my iBook finally died (it had had a great run — 4 years), s’like, I didn’t HAVE 2 grand to just up and spend on a Mac. Yeah sure sure, buy a lower-end model, people say, but why would I do that when I can get so much more bang from the buck with a PC?
Of course, I know all of the advantages to Macs, too. Macs are great and I love them. But I have always thought their price strategy, while effective (believe me, pricing higher is a VERY effective strategy), is a crock, too. Really gets up my nose.

Bottom line — I buy a Mac when all my basic needs are covered. It’s an add-on for me, because in the dark-nigt-of-the-soul time, I know I can get by just fine without it. Higher priced toys come second in my world…
