About Elizabeth

by Elizabeth on December 30, 2009

On the night of my initiation, the high priest asked me, “Who are you?”

I can’t entirely remember what I said at the time, but I know it started with “Uh…” Followed by a long string of not-really-descriptive nouns and adjectives. A laundry list of labels and assumed identities, none of which were really me anyway.

He said, “That’s great and all, but who are you?”

Many years later, a teacher I admire declared that I, along with everyone else in the world, is “a big squishy ball of love goo!” Another teacher describes this universal state of who-are-you-ness as “a spiritual being having a physical experience.”

These teachers are correct. And wise. Something to think about. (See? Snuck a little spiritual truth in there. And here you thought you were going to get off scot-free.)

Nonetheless, while I am totally on board with the love goo/spiritual being thing, some labels are helpful, admittedly. In no particular order:

I am a writer, entrepreneur, and business coach. I run a 6-figure coaching and information marketing business serving women solopreneurs who want to heal their relationship with money and get the self-marketing thing down so that they can make a great living doing the work they’re meant to do.

I am a storyteller. My primary medium is comics, though that changes from time to time. The answer to the question “What kind of stuff do you write?” is “The stuff where the magic is real.” I think of myself as a writer, first and foremost.

I love the comics makin’ (and sellin’ - go, retailers!) peeps, and the fantasy writin’ peeps. I am blessed to know plenty of both.

I am a Wiccan high priestess, Tarotist and proud practicing occultist. Yes, occultist - when was the last time you heard that word used in a sentence? I am a female magician in 3″ platform shoes. (Or, alternatively, a pair of snow boots.)

One of my clients asked, “Do you worship Satan?” That might cause some to roll their eyes, but you know what? It’s a fair question often asked by sincere people and deserves a straight answer.

Here it is. No, I do not worship Satan. I have neither seen nor experienced Satan, and I probably wouldn’t recognize him if he bit me in the butt. Nor do I direct energy towards others without their knowledge (i.e., “cast spells on people.”) Truthfully, these things are so far removed from my spiritual experience, I can’t even wrap my head around them.

What else? :)

I’m happily married to Leland Purvis, artist/illustrator/comics-makin’-guy. All checks should be made out to Elizabeth Genco Purvis. :)

Hailing from Maine (hence the snow boots), currently residing in New York City, soon to be moving to Portland, Oregon. (Northeastern to the core, so I’ll be back in the big city and the New England country often.)

You can keep up with the writing, creativity and transformational chicanery by subscribing to this blog, following me on Twitter, or friending me on Facebook. (Or all 3.)
